The Rise of Off-Premise Breakfast

Today’s always-on-the-go lifestyle is changing the way people eat—and what they want restaurants to provide. Consumers are increasingly looking for breakfast offerings that are not only craveable and filling but also ones that can easily be taken to the office or eaten while commuting. In fact, 33% of consumers ages 18 to 34 say they eat their weekday breakfasts while en route to another location, according to data from Restaurant Business sister company Technomic. Nearly a third (32%) of consumers expressed interest in on-the-go breakfast bowls and 45% of younger consumers surveyed would like to see more portable packaging for breakfast items.

Prominent leaders in the breakfast industry have added the following options to their menu in an effort to satisfy customer demands:

  • Bacon and Egg Bagel Sandwich
  • Roast Beef and Lamb Breakfast Sandwich
  • Honey Sausage Biscuit Sandwich
  • Oats (served with yogurt and fruit)
  • Different Flavors of Oatmeal
  • Egg Bites
